Mission of Mercy Program Models & Holistic Child Development

Child Development Centers, Mercy Centers, Partner-Based Schools, and Children’s Homes have unique ways of ministering to children in need. But despite these differences, each model’s activities and services address children’s needs in a holistic manner. Below are examples of how Mission of Mercy addresses each facet of a child’s life, regardless of program model:

Spiritual Development:  Our projects introduce children to Jesus Christ and encourage them to be His followers in both faith and action. Children typically participate in Sunday school classes, Bible studies, and times of prayer and worship. Children are also instructed in Christian values like kindness and love.

Physical Development: Children attending Mission of Mercy projects are provided with nutritious food and/or supplements, as well as medical check-ups and immunizations. Children are also taught how to protect themselves from illness through good hygiene habits. Furthermore, some projects facilitate games and other forms of recreation to ensure children receive proper amounts of exercise.

Social and Emotional Development:  Projects provide a safe and loving environment for the children they serve. Many children come from troubled or broken homes. The individual attention they receive at the projects assures them that they are loved and provides them with hope. Children are encouraged and instructed to socialize with others and treat them with kindness and respect. Sports, music, and drama are also offered to facilitate positive interaction among the children.

Mental Development: Projects often provide children with tutoring services to help them with their studies and encourage them in their education. Problem-solving, decision-making, leadership, and other life skills are also taught. In addition to basic academics, older children are provided with vocational training. This training ranges from instruction in trades like sewing and carpentry to farming.
